Growing unusual and exotic crops – free workshop at Caldmore Community Garden

Growing unusual and exotic vegetable crops

A free practical workshop on growing multicultural vegetables, herb and spices.

When: Thursday 21st April 2016 at 11am–3pm

The last fifty years has seen a massive expansion of our culinary horizons taking in foods from India, China, South East Asia and the Caribbean. However, the range of foods that we grow hasn’t always kept pace with this expansion. If you’re striving to reduce food miles and go for the freshest produce possible then why not have a go at growing some of this produce yourselves.

This free workshop will provide you with an introduction to some of the more unusual crops that can be grown here. Many of them have a proven track record having been grown by ethnic communities on allotments in the Midlands, and don’t require specialist facilities such as a glasshouse.

Lunch will be provided.

The event is run by Garden Organic and Kushinga garden, and is part of the Growing from Your Roots project, funded by the Heritage Lottery.
